Resource Loader - Minecraft Mods

Description

The purpose of this mod is to be used in conjunction with other mods such as Custom Main Menu and Custom Backgrounds, although it can be utilized with any mod that accepts resource locations for configuration options.

The main feature of this mod is the ability to add custom resources to Minecraft. While it is technically possible to accomplish this through resource packs, such packs would be visible in the resource pack window, unlike the resources added by this mod. In addition, users can easily add resources to a simple folder without the need to repack the resource pack every time, making the process much more straightforward.

Usage

Upon installing this mod, you will notice a new folder called "resources" in the main Minecraft folder where configuration files and save data are located. This folder is where you can add your own resources to the game. Unlike using resource packs, which are visible in the resource pack window, this mod allows you to add resources to the game by simply placing them in a folder, without the need to repackage a resource pack every time.

A resource location consists of a resource domain and a resource path. The resource domain is typically the mod ID, such as "randomthings" for the mod "Random Things". For example, "randomthings:textures/blocks/advancedFluidDisplay.png" refers to a texture of the "Advanced Fluid Display" block from the "Random Things" mod. Vanilla resources are located in the "minecraft" resource domain, such as "minecraft:textures/blocks/dirt.png". If a mod you are using requires you to enter a resource location for something, such as Custom Main Menu or Custom Backgrounds, the resource domain will be a folder in the "resources" folder.

This will probably be easier to understand when you see an image:

The Resource Location for singleplayer.png would now be "test:textures/singleplayer.png".

If you don't understand this / have problems using this with a mod feel free to ask on this page. Do not ask if you just don't get what this mod is supposed to do :P.

The things you put in the resources folder can override vanilla resources but can be overridden by installed resource packs. If you want to override everything, including all installed resource packs create a new folder called "oresources" where the resources folder is, resources put in "oresources" have the highest priority, e.g. override everything else that contains that resource. The following image shows how minecraft "searches" for a resource:

Debugging

By default Resource Loader will print all resource domains it has folders for to the debug log. By creating a folder called "debug" in either your resources or oresources folder you can enable additional logging. Resource Loader will then print a line to the debug log whenever it can't find a requested file.
